Vinci Technologies Exploration & Production

Vinci Technologies Exploration & Production laboratories division, design, manufacture and market a complete range of petroleum laboratoriesinstruments.

The production line of product covers all the needs of the reservoir engineering departments in term of Core Preparation, Routine Core Analysis, Special Core Analysis and PVT instruments.

The exploration line of products is mainly represented by the Geochemistry. Among the geochemistry instruments, the Rock Eval is one of our best success of collaboration with the Institut Français du Pétrole.

Source rock

Rock Eval 6 analyser

The Rock-Eval 6 analyser is designed to improve Rock-Eval 2 technology, and to increase the domain of application of the method, in the field of source rock characterisation (improved kerogen analysis and kinetic parameters) and in reservoir studies (tarmat location). The instrument is a completely automated device consisting of two micro-ovens which can be heated up to 850°C controlled by a thermocouple located in contact with the sample. An FID detector measures the H/C gas released during the pyrolysis while an on-line infrared cell is used to measure the quantity of CO and CO2 generated during pyrolysis and oxidation of samples. A new integrated software (Rocksix), supervises the analyser and allows an easy interpretation of the data.

S2 Analyser

The S2 analyser has been especifically designed to perform preparative pyrolysis for such detail kerogen studies. The pure organic matter or kerogen is deposited in a small boat carved gold rod and introduced in the first part of the oven. A preliminary heating at 60°C for 2 min to get rid of air and the sample is introduced in the oven itself. The oven temperature is first balistically raised to the temperature of thermo-vaporization to eliminate residual light hydrocarbons and water (at 300°C during 3 min) and then the pyrolysis began up to 550 °C with the desired temperature ramp (typically 25°C/min). Outside of the pyrolysis zone, the effluents are condensed with the carrier gas in the trap cooled by liquid nitrogen. When pyrolysis is completed, the trap is disconnected, removed from the liquid nitrogen and allowed to heat slowly. Argon vaporizes and flows out of the trap. The pyrolysate is then dissolved in an appropriate solvent for further analysis.

FEATURES:

Oven material : Monel with inner face coated with gold
Maximum temperature : 600°C
Carrier gas : Argon
Flow rate of carrier gas : 10-12 ml/min
Heating rate : From 5 to 60°C/min
Sample type : Solid or liquid
Power supply : 230V , 50 Hz , 550W

Pyro GC Analyser

The PyroGC analyser is used to perform detailed analysis (finger print) on high potential sample selected through the screening methods such as the Rock Eval analysis. It also allows the chromatography of crude oils and bitumen. Correlations between the crude oils and source rocks can be determined by comparing the chromatograms of the oil sample to the pyrograms issued from source rock and heavy compounds (asphaltens). The pyrograms of the thermovaporizable and pyrolysable compounds from source rocks or reservoir rocks can be obtained without pre-treatment of the samples. The GC unit is composed of (a) a special Programmed-Temperature Vaporiser (PTV) injector that can perform pyrolysis on bulk sample, (b) a cold trap using liquid nitrogen placed at the column head to ensure a good introduction of the thermovaporizable compound (c) a split injector for oil sample, (d) two capillary columns and (e) two Flame Ionisation Detectors (FID) .

Geochemistry Software

ROCKPLUS SOFTWARE

This Rock Plus application is built for Rock-Eval II and V series instruments. It is capable of real time monitoring, data acquisition and display such as oven temperature, S1, S2, S3, and S4 peaks. Sample programming function permits to define automatic analysis cycle of up to 25 samples in a row.

ROCKINT SOFTWARE

It is designed for the interpretation of the Rock-Eval pyrolysis data. It permits to update pyrolysis data and sample identification parameters, introduce new parameters (vitrinite reflectance, bitumen extracts,...) and select manually Tmax and S2. It computes new parameters (transformation ratio, initial source potentials...) from the basic Rock-Eval parameters and calculates hydrocarbon quantities and heavy products quantities (NSO compounds) trapped in reservoir rocks, for determination of the tarmat levels and the API gravity of oils. It also displays and prints out standard and customised reports, various diagrams and geochemical logs.

OPTKIN SOFTWARE

It is based on the kinetic model of Tissot and Espitalie which predicts the amount of hydrocarbons generated by kerogen during primary kerogen cracking. It permits the calculation of activation energies distribution, hydrocarbon generation rate and transformation ratio. The software uses as input data the Rock-Eval pyrolysis measurements on source rock or kerogen sample.

GENEX SOFWARE

It is the only 1D basin modelling package that allows to model the hydrocarbon generation and expulsion in any geological context. It permits the modelling of the well geometry and lithology through time, simulation of vertical fluid flows to incorporate over pressure and calculation of source rock maturity, determination of the hydrocarbon generation and expulsion.
